Dan Joyce, a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, began his professional career with the Maryland Dance Theater and Concert Dance Company of Boston. In 1988, he was selected to join the Mark Morris Dance Group with whom he performed for ten years. Joyce appeared in over 30 works choreographed by Mark Morris, including several opera and film projects. Since joining the Mason faculty in 1999, where he received his MFA in 2003, Joyce has choreographed for the Mason Dance Company, Theater of the First Amendment, DeSales University and for the In Series. A popular teacher for numerous regional and national festivals, he has also served on the faculties of the Virginia Governor’s School at the University of Richmond, the School of The Washington Ballet, the Citydance Center at Strathmore, and for the Summer Stages Workshop at Concord Academy. He has participated on numerous funding panels and advisory committees for various arts organizations in the metro D.C. area, and is frequently called upon to speak about dance.
