Sydney Lastorino is a sophomore dance major at George Mason University pursuing a BFA in dance with a minor in kinesiology. As a freshman Sydney was featured in two works performed for the Mason Gala, Second to Last by Alejandro Cerrudo, famed Hubbard Street Dance Chicago resident choreographer, and Exaltation of Larks, an original work choreographed by Susan Shields, Director of the School of Dance. Sydney is presently in rehearsals for a new work created by Yin Yue, entitled Within Reach. Prior to joining Mason, Sydney was featured in works by other renowned choreographers. She performed Freedom and Bang Bang, each created by John Vincent Leggio, Eye Versus You by Rena Butler, a current principal dancer with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and she was featured with a solo and duet in the work Effulgent, a collaboration among choreographers Lane Gifford, Sekou McMiller and Bradley Shelver. Sydney began her dance training with the New Jersey School of Ballet, where she studied for twelve years, the last six of which in a rigorous pre-professional program. At age 16, she entered the Joffrey Ballet School's Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Program, and later pursued a self-designed course of study at Peridance Capezio Center and Broadway Dance Center in New York. Sydney has also participated in a multitude of summer and winter intensives, including with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Joffrey Ballet School, Millennium Dance Complex and Broadway Dance Center. In the summer of 2018 Sydney will attend the North West Dance Project Summer Intensive.
